Why do artists paint animals?
Animals have been a source of inspiration for many artists. From art about rural life and growth to myths and legends, animals are used in art in many different ways. Art can help us explore our relationship with wildlife and can help us think about how we care for animals and the environment. But when you surround your life with pets, as I do, and animals in general, the unavoidable happens too. You lose them. Sickness, accidents, and old age take on many forms but it always does happen eventually. And I found this very hard. I still do and I don’t think it will ever change. But I have to say, being an artist and painting pet portraits has given me a form of peace.
Why do most artists have cats? (I have 3)
Undoubtedly, artists are fascinated by the sleekest of furry pets. Cats are so enigmatic, poised between the domestic world and their nocturnal realm of wild prowls and hunts. They resemble their dangerous big cat relatives, behaviourally and visually, much more than most dogs resemble their ancestral wolf.
Research has proven that petting a cat causes a release of the “love hormone” in humans. The technical term for this neurochemical is oxytocin, a hormone that is released when people fall in love. Oxytocin has also been proven to increase your emotional perception!
What do dogs Symbolise in paintings?
Generally, dogs symbolize faith and loyalty. A dog, when included in an allegorical painting, portrays the attribute of fidelity personified. In a portrait of a married couple, a dog placed in a woman’s lap or at her feet can represent marital fidelity.
